UPDATED GOALS - SEPTEMBER 2017

Because this place truly is a time vortex, setting goals are one way I can try and stop just drifting along. This time I thought I'd take it one stage further and publish the list online in my shiny new blog, why not? So here goes....

SURVIVAL GOALS
  • See my friend wearing her mortarboard graduation hat - December 2018 
  • Survive long enough to see what life is like after Brexit - March 2019 
IMMEDIATE GOAL
  • Get this blog going and updated regularly to share my ongoing work on the Cancer Odyssey book 
END OF YEAR GOALS
  • Have a 100,000 word first draft Cancer Odyssey manuscript complete 
  • Have produced a track of sufficient quality to be "sent off for rejection" to a label 
  • Complete the year having read 100 books (so roughly averaging 2 a week) 
BONUS GOAL
  • Have completed a 10,000 word work of fiction

HITTING SURVIVAL GOALS IS EASY IN A TIME VORTEX

900 words / 4 minute read Regular readers will be aware of the "time vortex" nature of Sinville. Dates have lost their meaning in this "Anti-Narnia" of perpetual weekend and constant summer. Granted, you have a time of year when it rains more, and a time of year when the temperature climbs, but you'll still be wearing your shorts no matter what. This, of course, means I pay no attention to such things, so I don't care what day it is normally and still have to work out what month it is sometimes. I've also not considered 2018 at all, with the one exception of a survival goal that I've written down here . It's these goals that can creep up on you suddenly, as I experienced twice over the last 24 hours, leaving me slightly weirded out. These were both triggered by reading about an imminent external event and thinking “Christ, already? That’s not supposed to happen for ages!”. HAPPY FREEDOM WEEK!

This recent period has marked something of a Cancer Odyssey landmark which, for ease, we're calling “Freedom Week”, as it is now 2 years since I quit the rat race of London, ran away and never looked back - the best decision I ever made! That, and the additional time and space for navel gazing I had while in Kampot recently, has given me thoughts on a new way of approaching life as an extension of my original Freedom Philosophy, living each day in a more conscious way. I will expand on my thinking and how this might help others in due course, but to mark Freedom Day, here are the immediate changes I’m making: To start uncomplicating my life, relinquishing all duties and responsibilities so I can stop thinking beyond today, dates no longer apply Live each day consciously, even I decide to spend that day in a darkened room, it's not wasted time if that's what I decide I need.
